Avoiding Scams

How YOU can avoid getting scammed

Some of the absolute most prevalent types of scams out there are the ones known as ‘advance-fee scam.’ They essentially boil down to requesting a fee in advanced, in order for you to receive a promised, much greater amount of money. Needless to say, you never actually receive this large sum of money.

Commonly these types of scams will present themselves as a sweepstakes or lottery winnings, and that fabulous prize/money is all yours, and you just need to send in an administration/shipping fee to claim your prize! Once you send in money, it’s too late. If you even receive anything in return, it will typically be along the lines of single nickel, commonly you will get nothing at all.

Legitimate sweepstakes/lotteries will never ask you for payment/bank account/credit card upfront to receive your winnings. Always be wary of items mailed under bulk mail as well as ones that do not use your name, instead just referring to you as a ‘Lucky Winner’, these are the preliminary ways to tell that these great deals, most likely are in fact too good to be true.

Be wary of anything that is asking you for money, personal info, bank account, credit cards, etc. Stay safe!
