Emergency Kits
Nature can be rather unpredictable at times. Strong winds, massive flooding, ice and snow, all sorts of sudden events can occur, each with the possibility of causing severe complications.
Many retirement communities, such as Canterbury Manor, do have backup systems in place in case of an emergency. Such as generators to keep power on in the dining and kitchen facilities, allowing us the ability to continue providing food and warmth to our residents.
However, even if you are living in a retirement community that does have the necessary precautions, you should always be prepared yourself in case of an emergency.
You should always remember to have on hand:
- Non-perishable foods
- Water
- Flashlights
- Batteries
- Blankets and Warm Clothing
- Radio
- Personal Sanitation Products
- Spare Medications
- Manual Can-opener
A good rule of thumb is that you should have on hand, enough supplies to get through a minimum of three days without assistance. For example, you should have one gallon of water per person, per day, for hydration and basic sanitation, totaling about three gallons of water for each person of your household.
You never know when an emergency is going to happen. Tomorrow, next month, or not at all. But it never hurts to be a little bit extra prepared.
